If you’re willing to wait 10,000 years after you’ve plunked down your 40 bucks, you too can own ocean view property. And it’s probably more ocean view than you are thinking of.
A company in Hawaii called Lo’ihi Development Co. is already selling lots for property that is nothing but water at the moment.
You’re probably wondering why you have to wait 10,000 years and why it’s all water. Well for starters the Lo’ihi company is waiting for the Loihi underwater volcano to rise above sea level and it will probably take that long for it to do so.
Those who do buy a lot will get a brochure and a deed. The Lo’ihi web site shows 4 squares of ocean view and advertises, “Lo’ihi Seaview Estates: Real Estate for the Future. Grand Water View Front Lots.”
The founders of the Lo’ihi Development Co. are planning to start online chatrooms and newsletters to help them figure out what the street names will be called and what kind of government the volcanic island should have once it emerges from the sea. They are also considering having a homeowners association meeting every April Fool’s day on a boat ride over the volcano.
