Electronic cars could be rolling down the freeway as soon as 2009. Co-founder of the Paypal payment system Elon Musk is Chairman at Tesla Motors, one of the companies vying for the top electric car, was quoted during a news conference in February as saying, “I really believe the future is electric vehicles. I think we will look back upon gasoline-powered cars … as a temporary aberration.”
Other companies join Musk in his opinion that electric cars will be in our near future and are essential to saving our environment. Ian Wright, based out of San Francisco California, has designed an electric car dubbed the X1 and hopes to see his prototype at the top of the wave of new American car companies. Wright is in direct competition with Tesla Motors’ new EV; electric vehicle.
Tesla Motors has already designed their roadster at a facility located in the Silicone Valley whose employee’s number in the neighborhood of 170 people. So far Tesla Motors has accumulated over $60 million dollars in investments that will go towards opening a new manufacturing plant in Albuquerque New Mexico where the EV will be mass produced.
